Sakae Artist: Gary Novak

Born and raised in Chicago, Gary was raised in a musician’s home of two jazz pianists. Playing gigs with his parents, Larry and Carol, with the likes of Milt Hinton, Kenny Burrell, Herb Ellis and Joe Williams where a great experience and education at an early age.

After moving to Los Angeles in the summer of 1988 new opportunities began to develop such as joining George Benson for a year in 1991. Soon after came the Chick Corea Quartet and Electric band 2 shortly there after in 1992. When not on the road with Chick Corea, Gary was recording and touring with Alan Holdsworth, Robben Ford, David Sanborn, Chaka Kahn, GRP all stars and Bob Berg. 1998 brought a directional change after joining Alanis Morissette for 4 records and 3 tours.

In today’s world, the music retail business has had a troublingly profound effect on music manufacturing across the board. I feel that Sakae has always maintained the correct protocol by never sacrificing quality for the interest of the lowest common denominator. I believe in Sakae’s constant pursuit of producing the best sounding drums possible. I am very proud to be in this family of people who care about sound as much as I do.
