Sakae Artist: Tim Goodyer

Tim Goodyer is a freelance drummer in London, having over twenty years experience working as a drummer/percussionist in the theatres of the West End in London as well as concerts and recordings for some of the world’s leading orchestras and artists.

Tim is currently the drummer for Disney’s sell-out show ‘Aladdin’ at the Prince Edward Theatre London. He previously worked for South Park creators’ hit show ‘The Book Of Mormon’ and before that a two-year run of the Dreamworks Animation production of ‘Shrek the Musical’ at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. His other shows have included ‘Dirty Dancing’, ‘Saturday Night Fever’, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, ‘Ragtime’, ‘Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and he was the original drummer for the London production of the award-winning ‘Avenue Q’.

He has also played in ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Grease’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘Beautiful Game’, ‘Kiss Me Kate’, ‘Fame’, ‘Footloose’, ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Rat Pack’, ‘Smokey Joe’s Café’ and played drums for dance rehearsals for the stars of the Rob Marshall movie ‘Nine’ with Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Daniel Day Lewis and Penelope Cruz. Tim has played for a host of musical talent including Michael Ball, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elaine Paige, Sarah Brightman, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, playing at such venues as The Royal Opera House, Hampton Court Palace, the Cannes Film Festival and the Royal Academy of Music.

I work in a wide variety of musical environments from orchestral concerts to jazz and big band work as well as more groove-based Pop and Rock stuff. I love the Trilogy series because they are versatile enough to cover all these styles. They produce a beautiful warm and, most importantly musical, tone which sound engineers seem to really appreciate, in both recording and live situations. One BBC engineer actually came up to me unprompted and said, ‘make sure you never sell this kit!’ They have the classic sound and vibe of the revered old vintage drums and at the same time have the benefit of the quality shell construction that Sakae are renowned for which makes them very easy to tune and totally roadworthy. And for me the big thing with the Trilogy series is the amazing feel I get back from them which inspires me to play. It's also a comfort to know when you're sitting in an orchestra in which people have sometimes taken a mortgage out to pay for their violins that the drums you're playing are built by craftsmen with a long established tradition of building high quality instruments. I'm really honoured to be a part of the Sakae family.

Trilogy Series

Sakae’s proprietary Maple/Poplar/Maple 3-ply shells are at the heart of Trilogy’s vintage sound. 4-ply North American Maple reinforcement rings at the top and bottom of the shell help to dry the sustain and keep the ultra-thin shell in round.
