Sakae Artist: Aaron McCollough

Kevin Rapillo was born in Trumbull, CT, just north of New York City, in the 1960’s. His Great Uncle, drummer Lou Vitale, gave Kevin sticks as a toddler and encouraged him to bang away. Kevin’s dad grew up listening to his uncle on the local radio and anticipating Uncle Lou bringing his contemporaries, like Gene Krupa, home for an after-gig meal. This excitement and passion was passed to Kevin young and he learned that a drum kit wasn’t just some disposable toy. By the time he was a teenager, he had his first rock and roll band. After playing gigs all through high school and soaking up all the music he could in the New York area, he enrolled at Berklee College of Music at 17 years old. In Boston, he formed Kid Crash and pursued the rock and roll dream at night and went to school during the day. Touring coast to coast, Kevin rode the roller coaster of record and publishing deals in the 80’s and early 90’s while earning a B.M. degree from Berklee.

In late 1997, Kevin moved to Nashville where he played for every singer/songwriter he could, touring and recording. Those experiences led him to a chance meeting with a then unknown country superstar, Rodney Atkins, just before his debut album was to be released.

"I’m a band guy," says Kevin. "My band chops are what I really take pride in and what I enjoy the most...playing for the band and the song. Do that and the people will follow."
