Sakae Artist: Peter Howell

Peter Howell, through his work as a founder member of Jive Aces, is recognised as one of the leading swing drummers in the world.

Peter was born in the UK in Ilford, Essex in 1964 and grew up in the Essex countryside. His first percussion experience was, in his mid teens, bashing out rockabilly classics on a homemade drum set with long time friend Ian Clarkson (later Jive Aces lead singer).

Peter is particularly known for his driving double shuffle and swinging brush work. He loves the drums and is knowledgeable about the history of the instrument and the musicians who’ve mastered it. He appreciates vintage drums, but prefers playing modern but vintage sounding and looking kits.

With The Jive Aces, Peter has performed or recorded with Chick Corea, Mark Isham, Keely Smith, Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, Vic Flick, Doug E Fresh and many more.

Peter averages around 300 shows a year with The Jive Aces, all over the world. Career highlights include headlining The Royal Albert Hall, playing at Buckingham Palace for the Coronation Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and major events everywhere from Bulgaria to Bangkok.

I can honestly say that my Sakae Trilogy kit is the best drum kit that I’ve ever played. And they look amazing too - I am truly in love with it! The Sakae team are true artists in the field of drum making.
